Linda Walton Recognized as Wichita Business Journal’s Women Who Lead
There’s no one more deserving than our very own longstanding Secretary/Treasurer, Linda Walton, to be recognized for her remarkable career and her inspiring leadership as a woman who leads in Real Estate Construction & Design! Thank you, Linda, for guiding our team to success and helping us reach our highest potential. Congratulations! 🎉✨
What has been your career path?
My career path has not been the standard college route. After graduating from technical college, I worked briefly for a couple companies, and in 1997 | started at Eby Construction as accounting secretary. With retirements and other resignations, my duties were expanded, and I was promoted to corporate secretary/ treasurer in 2004.
Who are your mentors and how have they influenced your career?
Several have influenced my career throughout my lifetime, starting with my Grandma. She instilled in me that I could be successful in whatever career I chose. My Dad taught me that when you’re at work, you should work hard. Karman Diehl, former Eby VP HR, helped me grow in my career at Eby, and the members of National Association of Women in Construction (especially Bev Sauerwein) have always provided great advice about working in a male-dominated industry.
Best advice for a woman wanting to enter your field?
You spend a lot of time at work, so pick a field you enjoy. Join an industry-related organization (like NAWIC) and participate in their activities. Their members have probably dealt with the same things you may experience and will want to help What do you like most about your job? The people and the variety. I have been very fortunate to work with some amazing people throughout my career. My position allows me to be involved in different areas of our company. Some days I balance numbers and other days, I get to be creative. It’s also rewarding to drive around Wichita and see all the different buildings that Eby has built.
