About a year ago, Eby’s future ownership/leadership group decided to undertake the effort of revising our core values. The core values which had been in place were written 20 years ago, and mostly by people who were no longer with the company. Though they had served us well, we felt that it was time to re-examine the list and distill those principles that should guide us as we move forward with the group that would become the new owners.

As we began to consider our new core values, one of the primary goals was to create a list which was easy to memorize, so employees could quickly recall the ideals we are committed to. We didn’t just want a list of values on a wall, we wanted something that would be easily integrated into everyday meetings, training and conversation.

After months of discussion, defining and refining, we developed PRIDE. PRIDE is an acronym which stands for People, Respect, Integrity, Determination and Excellence. These are our core values:

People – People are the heartbeat of our business; therefore, we strive to treat people with dignity, compassion, fairness and a positive attitude.
Respect – We strive to create a respectful environment through our actions and attitudes.
Integrity – We are honest, trustworthy, fair, ethical and honorable.
Determination – We are unwavering in the pursuit of our purpose.
Excellence – We aim to deliver the highest quality and best value.

Eby’s core values are built on a foundation we call, “In God We Trust”. This is a belief that EVERY person has been created by God with unique talents and abilities that are to be valued, strengthened and exercised in our common pursuit to Build a Better Tomorrow.

Our core values are meant to serve as guideposts. When faced with decisions or questions in our daily work, we must always seek to weigh the answers against our core values. Are we putting people first? Is it respectful? Does it demonstrate integrity, determination, excellence?

These values go beyond just an acronym. They memorialize a culture which has been established over the course of 83 years of construction. Our people build with PRIDE and work with PRIDE. We take PRIDE in everything we do, because we realize that our work is not just getting something done. We are creating a tangible asset which improves the lives of people and businesses in our community.
