“I like to work on my landscaping and yard. It’s satisfying to plant things and watch them grow. I’m a Purple Martin, Tree Swallow and Bluebird landlord. During the summer, my backyard may be occupied by 40 adults feeding more than 100 young. It’s quite amazing, actually!”
Fun Fact:“People would be surprised to know that I was invited to play in the Honors Orchestra of Southern California.”
Community:“I am the treasurer for Construction Specifications Institute. Several years ago, I was a committee chair for the Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, which coincided with their major sanctuary remodel. It was interesting to see the construction process from a different point of view!”
Childhood:“In the mid-1970s, my family moved from a farm in Iowa to the Los Angeles area. Talk about a culture shock! I turned in my Wranglers and boots for Ocean Pacific shorts and Van Doren shoes. It wasn’t all bad, though. When we weren’t delivering papers for the Daily News Tribune, my brothers and I built bigger and better skateboards and bigger and better ramps. Our parents made us stop the ramp building when we reached eight feet.”
